According to legend, Aphrodite goddess of love and beauty, rose from the waves in this strikingly beautiful spot. The Greek name, Petra tou Romiou 'The Rock of the Greek' is associated with the legendary frontier-guard of Byzantine times Digenis Akritas, who kept the marauding Saracens at bay with amazing strength. It is said that he heaved this large rock into the sea destroying the enemy's ship.
This is an area of spectacular beauty. According to legend the goddess of love Aphroditi was born out of the waves at this beach.
To get there you have to take the exit of Limassol Paphos highway next to Pissouri village if your coming from the direction of Limassol and then you continue up to the old road of Limassol Paphos. Then you have to turn right and you continue for about 2 km untill you sea the Venus rock. 500 m before the rock you have to take right driving from a dirty road up to the top of a hill.
From Paphos you have to take the next exit after the exit of Kouklia village and you continue through the old road up to the Venus rock. 500 m next to the rock you will take a left driving from the the dirty road up to the top of a hill. |
